IS A VIZSLA THE RIGHT BREED FOR YOU?

This page is to give you the most informed decision when choosing this breed.  After all we own five Vizsla's and one day we started with one!  We believe they are utterly the best breed out there, at the time of writing this they are in the top 10 searches of all breeds in the UK.  

 

However, when choosing this breed please remember the origins of the breed and what they were bred to do, there is no such thing as a pet bred Hungarian Vizsla. We see this term crop up on many adverts from puppy farmers.  When choosing any breed of dog you need to be sure you are up for the traits they exhibit (in this case hunting).

This Vizsla is a hunt point and retrieve gundog they are bred to have a high level of intelligence, a high energy level and not to tire easily. They were bred to work closely with their handler.

 

As a future pet owner what this means for you is you have chosen a dog that requires your company, that needs plenty of exercise and has a great need to be mentally stimulated and well trained for them to grow into a balanced wellmannered companion.

 

Carefully consider the type of home you can offer and what your plans are to ensure the dog gets the correct upbringing.

Dog ownership experience – it is important that you are honest with yourself about your actual level of experience with dogs, just growing up with a family dog is very different to being the person responsible for their training and well-being.

 

There are so many breeders out there who we hear say “I’m not a breeder I'm only having one litter so I’m not bothering with Kennel Club registration or health testing as it's not something I intend to do professionally”.  Breaking this down, would you buy a car without its service history, would you start a new job without the detail behind the company, would you let your children go to a school you know nothing about?  If the answer is NO then please seriously do not consider these 'one-time breeders'.
